- What kind of entry-level jobs do you have?
EVS (Janitorial) and Food Service Workers generally do not require direct experience. All other positions require some direct experience or education.
- I've always wanted to work in healthcare. What kinds of programs do you recommend/are out there?
One of the most sought after positions in healthcare are Registered Nurses. Check out local community colleges and universities for RN programs. Most require 2-3 semesters of prerequisite coursework before beginning a 2-3 year nursing program. Other in demand positions (grouped according to educational requirements) are as follows:
- Require a Bachelor's degree or higher: Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Recreational Therapists, Clinical Dietitians, Clinical Lab Scientists (Med Tech), and Pharmacists.
- Require an Associate's degree or vocational training (usually 1-2 years): Imaging Technicians (Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, MRI), Respiratory Care Practitioners, Surgical Technicians/Sterile Processing Technicians (SPD), Lab Assistants, and Vocational Nurses (LVN).
- Requires vocational training (usually 3 - 6 months): Phlebotomists, EMTs, Advanced Care Techs (ACTs), Home Health Aides (CHHA), Pharmacy Techs, and Unit Secretaries.
Generally speaking, graduates of programs in-group "c" require previous experience before working in a hospital environment.
- Do you hire Medical Assistants and Medical Administrative/Coders?
Although Medical Assistants are most commonly found in clinics and doctors' offices we do hire Medical Assistants for phlebotomy, lab assistants and imaging aides. All our coding positions require national certification and at least one year of hospital coding experience.
- How do I become a _______? (phlebotomist, rad tech, etc.)
Your best resource for accredited programs in our geographic area is the website of the licensing organization. Licensing organizations are easily found through California Department of Health website or by an Internet search
- How do I become licensed to practice nursing in the state of California?
The California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) must license all Registered Nurses in the state of California. The website http://www.rn.ca.gov is quite extensive and should answer most of your questions. Their phone number is (916) 322-3350.
- Can I check the status of my application?
We process several hundred resumes and applications each week. Please allow a minimum of three weeks for processing.
- How much does this position pay?
Pay rates for benefited positions depend on your years of applicable experience. Pay rates for per diem positions are a flat rate and do not depend on your applicable experience.
- What does per diem mean?
TCMC offers benefited and per diem positions. Per diem employment is on an "as needed" basis. Per diem employees submit their availability and a target number of hours to their supervisor, and the supervisor fits them in as needed.
